SCHOOL ESSENTIALS

With a new semester quickly approaching, I figured that I would do a post on what exactly you need for school. The list is endless, depending on you as a person. But I'm going to list some of the basics that are pretty essential for everyone.
Read my letter to freshmen here.
- Pencils
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Of course, you need pencils to write notes, assignments, and other things down. If you use lead pencils, you might want to pick up some extra lead. If you use wooden pencils, you may want to grab a handheld pencil sharpener. (These are the lead pencils I use. You may think they're a bit pricey, but they usually last me about two semesters.)
- Pens
If you're anything like me, you hate writing notes (or anything really) in pen. What if you make a mistake? You can't erase ink (unless you have these fancy pens), and scribbles make your notes look super messy. However, some teachers require writing in pen, and there will occasionally be a permission form or your IGP that you have to sign in pen, so it's a good idea to keep some on hand.
- Highlighters
Highlighters are so important because there are a few teachers in this world that will either read you the test the day before, or tell you what to study. When this happens, highlighters are perfect for highlighting where in your notes the information is. There's also great for color-coding your notes into sections and topics.
- Notebooks
One thing that my inner organizer requires is a different notebook for every class, but I don't want to grab just any black spiral and go. Target has some really cute notebooks here that are perfect for school, or you can order some adorable ones here from Mara-Mi.
- Planner
Most schools provide you with a classy, gorgeous agenda (take note of the sarcasm), but in case they don't, you might want to consider buying a planner. These help to keep your assignments, due dates, and after-school activities organized and easily accessible. Again, Target has some stylish planners and agendas here.
- Paper
Even with the super classy notebooks you just bought, you'll need to keep some paper. This is especially important when you have classwork or homework to turn in, but don't have the patience to deal with those stringy things. Every student knows what I'm talking about.
- Binders
Binders are really great for keeping your notebooks and paper together. Again, Target sells beautiful ones here, and I've found some cute ones in the past from Office Depot, which can be found here.
- Money
Most schools have vending machines somewhere in the cafeteria, and some even sell chips, etc. when you walk through the line, so it's important to have a little bit of money with you, especially when lunch that day is meatballs and rice. Or, when they serve pizza and you want more than one slice.
- Gum
Don't question it. People will repeatedly ask you for gum throughout the year. Trust me: if you give them some the first time, they will come back and ask for more the next day. If you have not experienced this yet, you're in for a treat. Choose wisely.
- Deodorant, Perfume/Cologne, Hand Sanitizer, A Change of Clothes, etc.
These hygiene products are vital, especially for anyone taking gym class. Self-explanatory.
- Phone Charger and Earphones
You never know when your bus will be late, or when your Quizlet app will kill your battery.
Those are the essentials, in my opinion, for school. Best of luck for this next semester!
