#4 - HOW YOUR PURE LIFESTYLE AFFECTS THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU

"...Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." - James 4:4

Have you ever had people look at you weird when you talk about God? Do some people just walk away? Has anyone ever asked, "What's different about you?"

The world around us has become so corrupt and sinful that teen Christians are either scrutinized or laughed at. It's so easy to get caught up in playing a part in your friend group or school, or changing the way you look, talk, or act for others. However, God calls us as Christians to stick out and be noticeably different. Now, this doesn't exactly mean dress in maxi skirts and turtlenecks all the time, scream your head off in the streets, instantly shun anyone who sins around you, or any other crazy act you can think of.

Romans 12:2 - "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Sticking out as a Christian may not always be your favorite choice, and hardly ever be the most popular one. This statement automatically makes me think of Joseph and Potiphar's wife. (The story is found in Genesis 39. It's a good one, I promise.)

Proverbs 1:15-16 - "My son, walk not thou in the way with them: refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood."

I'll tell you the truth: it won't be easy. You'll have to get rid of some friends, stop watching that certain show on Netflix, or unfollow some people on social media. A lot of your friends won't understand, and they may even get angry with you. That's just the world's reaction to Christians.

Psalm 1:1 - "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

At times, you may feel as if all the effort and careful evaluation is a waste of time that doesn't change anything. I'll tell you, though: it will eventually be noticed. There won't be results overnight. Despite this, it will be worth it when you are spending eternity in Heaven with Christ.

Proverbs 4:14-15 - "Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away."

My challenge for you is this: unfollow that bad account. Unfriend that person on Facebook. Learn to say "no" when the people around you aren't doing what is right. Make that extra effort to change your lifestyle and glorify God through everything on a day-to-day basis.
